Over 400 staff and guests filled the Doncaster Dome for a night of appreciation as Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals (DBTH) hosted their annual Star Awards on Thursday, 8 October. The event, presented by Harry and Tia from The Don, celebrated the achievements of individuals and teams across Bassetlaw Hospital, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital, and the Trust’s external clinics. More than 500 nominations poured in from colleagues and the public, highlighting the dedication and impact of staff at all levels. The evening was made possible by support from sponsors including Apira, Darwin Group, NHS Professionals, and others, who contributed to the celebration recognising excellence in patient care, teamwork, innovation, and support. Jennifer Green was honoured as Star of the Year, while the Chatsfield Suite took home the Medical and Clinical Team of the Year award. The Medical Records team was named Non-clinical Team of the Year. Additional awards acknowledged exceptional work in teaching, fundraising, sustainability, and health equality, among other areas. Mark Bailey, Chair of the Board at DBTH, praised the nominees and winners: “A huge well done to this year’s winners and everyone who was nominated. Being put forward by a colleague or a member of the public is something to be proud of. It means someone has noticed what you do, appreciated it and taken the time to say thank you.” The Chair’s Award went to the Specialist Palliative Care, Bereavement and Chaplaincy Team, recognised for their compassion and support for patients and families during challenging times. Nominations highlighted the team’s commitment, from comforting anxious patients to making special moments possible, such as arranging a wedding in the hospital chapel. DBTH’s monthly Star Awards continue year-round, with public nominations invited. The annual celebration will return in 2027.
